Championship roundup: Boro win seven-goal thriller; Burnley lose again

Added-time winner from Phillips sinks Norwich Saints hit four; Burnley beaten 3-1 at Swansea Ashley Phillips was the unlikely late matchwinner as Middlesbrough edged a seven-goal thriller, beating Norwich 4-3 at Riverside Stadium. Norwich looking for a third win on the bounce, made the perfect start with 50 seconds on the clock when striker Mohamed Touré hammered in, but within seven minutes Boro had gone ahead. Sebastian Berhalter powered in his first Middlesbrough goal to level, before winger Amario Cozier-Duberry had the Riverside crowd bouncing with a tidy finish. Continue reading...

Schade double denies Bournemouth first league win as Brentford rescue draw

No need for distress flares just yet at Bournemouth. Trust the process, though with new frontiers of European football beckoning, 2,000 fans travelling to San Sebastián next week, there are grounds for concern on the home front. Winning positions have been surrendered in Marco Rose’s four Premier League matches. An unwanted carry-over from Andoni Iraola’s tenure cannot be allowed to worsen. “They scored two goals with two shots on target and we scored two goals with 10 shots on target,” said Rose, ruefully running the numbers. “Two very honest teams who do things really well that can cause you problems,” was Keith Andrews’s far more satisfied summation. Flemming and Ipswich floor 10-man Crystal Palace with 90th-minute winner

This victory has been a long time coming for Gary O’Neil. The Millwall supporter from Beckenham, whose son plays for Crystal Palace’s academy, had picked up a solitary point on his previous five trips to this part of south London as a manager. So it was no wonder that he celebrated Zian Flemming’s winning goal in the 90th minute with the same gusto as the travelling Ipswich supporters. On a topsy-turvy afternoon Palace took the lead before Emersonn and Leif Davis cancelled out Anan Khalaili’s first goal for Palace after Axel Disasi’s red card. Jørgen Strand Larsen equalised with 15 minutes remaining but Khalaili had his head in his hands after missing an open goal minutes later and it was to prove crucial as Flemming – the last of the 14 new players signed by Ipswich in the summer in a record spend of £190m for a promoted side – scrambled home the winner after Davis hit the crossbar with a looping header.
